For nearly a century, the mythical palace NEGRESCO has dominated the Promenade des Anglais on the Baie of Angels, its magical name evoking a certain “art de vivre”. In the very heart of Nice, facing Mediterranean Sea, the five-star hotel is located 5 km from the International Airport Nice Côte d’Azur and half way between Cannes and Monte Carlo. The room decoration has been inspired by the most outstanding periods of French art and history, individually decorated to reflect styles as different as Louis XIII and art deco.
In 1893, the young Romanian Henri NEGRESCU (1868-1920), son of an innkeeper and gypsy violinist arrived in MONTE-CARLO. He started off in the catering trade and quickly worked his way up to become director of the restaurant at the HELDER. His professionalism drew a renowned and loyal clientele. His management of the restaurants at the Municipal Casino of Nice and the Casino at Enghien-les-Bains in 1905 was to have a significant impact on his future.
